It’s time to winterize your computer!
It’s time to winterize your computer! That’s right,
WINTERIZE! The southeasters are on the way and your computer
needs protection. For those of you with stand alone systems, an
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) is important – you
can save your documents and shut down the computer
properly and avoid that dreaded blue screen and
the chance that your hard drive has been corrupted by
the unexpected loss of power. For those of you with networks, you have a UPS on
your server so if the power fails, you can shut it down in
an orderly manner, but what about your workstations
that can lose valuable information? Are they protected?
And your hubs? Your routers? And switches? When
the power goes out, there is no warning and any information
that is not saved is lost. Can you afford the loss?
NO! An uninterruptable power supply as part of your power
bar is your insurance. When the power fails, you can
save information across the network and then shut
down your systems in an orderly manner. American Power Conversion (APC) manufactures a
complete line of UPS devices from small “power bar”
styles that last for about 10 minutes to large, programmable
units that can control a bank of servers. Whatever
your needs, there is a UPS device for you. Check
out their website at www.apcc.com. Remember – it’s not IF the power fails but WHEN the
power fails.
