What is Bios Anyway?
Pronounced "bye-ose," which stands for basic input/output
system. The BIOS is software that is needed to run the
computer before accessing any programs from a floppy or
hard disk. On PCs, the BIOS contains information required
to control the motherboard resources such as keyboard,
display, screen, disk drives, serial communications, and a
number of other miscellaneous functions. The BIOS could
be called an interpreter between the motherboard hardware
and the whatever operating system is installed. Most modern PCs have a flash BIOS, which means that
the BIOS has been recorded on a reprogramable memory
chip, which can be updated if new features or fixes to the
BIOS are required.
